BUHARI’S COMMISSIONING OF THE BREATHTAKING GOMBE – KUMO – BILLIRI KALTUNGO HIGHWAY

Opinion: This project looks like a painting, it’s beauty is unbelievable. But Mr President quietly commissioned it two weeks ago. Just another beautiful road. No drama. No beating of the chest. Probably one of the finest roads I have seen in Nigeria – with a serene simplicity surrounded by a picturesque landscape.

The Gombe Kaltungo project is not a famous road. It is not in the class of the Lagos Ibadan Expressway or the 2nd Niger Bridge. But it’s located in the most breathtaking countryside landscape you will ever find. It reminds me of the Kikuyu plains, I use to admire as a child in Kenya.

You reading this have probably not heard of the quiet ancient folks along this road the – Kumo, Billiri and Kaltungo communities. But this is a major road for them, linking communities in Gombe, Taraba and Adamawa States – opening our nation’s rich farmlands to the world.

In 2014 this road contract was awarded by President Jonathan’s PDP government and that was how far it got, until President Buhari picked it up and just completed it, August 2022. Quietly.

Here is to the hardworking noiseless President, changing the lives of ordinary folks in far-flung forgotten parts of Nigeria.

Once again Congratulations Sir ??

Buhari described the sixty-six kilometer road as a strategic project aimed at improving the nation’s road infrastructure, supporting the ease of doing business, creating jobs and entrenching a prosperous economic environment, in line with the administration’s commitment to eradicate poverty among its citizens.

“Today, we are commissioning and handing over a 66.10km road, which links Gombe with the neighbouring Taraba and Adamawa states. The road connects three North Eastern states, which makes it a critical component of our national road network. This road has been built to the highest quality of design and workmanship and if properly used, will last for the designed service life,” he said.

Speaking further, the President while commending the capacity and patriotism of Nigerians who put in their best talent and resources in the construction process, also urged citizens to avoid the abuse and misuse of the infrastructure and observe all road regulations particularly, the maximum speed limit of one hundred kilometers per hour.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were the Gombe state governor, Alhaji Inuwa Mohammed Yahaya and members of his cabinet, the representative of the Minister of Works and Housing, royal fathers, heads of federal and state parastatals and a horde of appreciative Gombe state citizens.
